Every month we hear about wonderful examples of Castle associates
going Above and Beyond their normal duties by tackling something that has a
great positive effect on the company, associates or customers. It might be anything—an
innovative way to reduce costs, performing some great customer service or making
a terrific sale. The leadership team wants to recognize these extraordinary
accomplishments and have created the Spirit Award to recognize associates who
have made an exceptional contribution to our company.

April 2007 Winners
Carl Ross
Carl is a warehouse associate in our Orlando branch and has been with Castle
since October 2000. Carl was nominated for the Spirit Award on a recent day
when Orlando was critically short staffed and Carl did the work that normally
takes several people. To quote his supervisor, “…for one person to do almost
every ship ticket and unload all the freight for that day is well above and
beyond…” If that wasn’t enough, Carl then showed real Castle Spirit by volunteering
to stay late and catch up unfinished work in the warehouse. Carl’s “Above and
Beyond” contribution made a huge difference in Orlando that day and is an inspiration
to the rest of us. Good Job!
Dee Tanner
Dee Tanner is a showroom consultant in our Ocala Plumbing Décor Showroom and
earned the March Spirit Award in recognition for an outstanding contribution
to Castle’s strength in the marketplace. A few weeks back, Dee had worked with
a customer for Central State Granite and spec’ed out a nice order. The granite
company needed the sink that week (which we had in stock at Brandon), only the
transfer truck had already been to Ocala for that week. The only way to satisfy
the customer would require an extraordinary effort and Dee came through. Dee
enlisted the aid of her daughter in Tampa, who picked up the sink in Brandon
and then met Dee half way between Ocala and Tampa. Dee even chipped in dinner
for the favor! Dee’s customer got the sink the next day and you made Castle
look great. This is truly “Above and Beyond” Castle Spirit!
March 2007 Winners
Congratulations go
out to our first Spirit Award winner—Joe DiMaio!! Joe is a non-CDL driver
in our Lutz branch and has been with Castle since September 2004. According
to his manager, Jeff Fogel, a meeting was held with his drivers to discuss ways
they could help increase sales. Each driver was given the monthly sales flyer
and a spiral notebook with instructions on ways to start conversations while
on their delivery routes. “Since that time Joe has gone above and beyond my
expectations with his ability to sell. In the short time we have been doing
this, Joe has generated about $10,000 in additional sales that we may not have
gotten if not for his tremendous efforts.” Great idea, Jeff, and great effort,
Joe! Keep up the good work.
Honorable mention
goes to Pam Robinson, Corporate Office Manager, Orlando, for her efforts
in consolidating the Nextel and cell phone programs for the Central and North
areas. Annual savings equate to approximately $15,000. Pam went the extra mile
by getting the vendor to make the cost savings retroactive and saved us thousands
more. Way to follow through, Pam!
